FAQ: FAQ

What can a postpartum Doula do?

Postpartum Doula's are trained to understand what new babies need.  We are here for the new parents to comfort and support them. We can help with soothing techniques, offer breastfeeding or bottle support, and explain normal newborn behaviors.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

Postpartum Doula's are not usually involved with medical staff.  We are generally working with the families at home.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

We can only offer educated advise and assessments.  For examinations, we will always refer you back to your primary care physician or the Newborn's pediatrician

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

Postpartum services start after you have been released from the hospital. For home births, we start after the birth has been completed without complications.  However, some contract exceptions may include being present for the birth.  This will all be discussed an addressed during your consultation.

Most Postpartum Doula's provide service, for families during the first 12 weeks after baby is home.  Some Families need assistance varying from full daily visits, a few hours a day, overnight or 1-3 times a week.
